The supermodel Claudia Schiffer turns 50 today, and in honour of her birthday, we share 15 little-known facts about the German who is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world.
Clubbing can do wonders
Claudia Schiffer was discovered at a nightclub in Düsseldorf, Germany, when she was 17. Michel Levanton, who spotted her, was the head of Metropolitan Model Agency and signed the young Schiffer as a model. By the way, one little-known fact about Claudia Schiffer is that at that time, she wanted to be a lawyer and work with her father.
An indisputable fact is that fate had big plans for Claudia Schiffer. So, shortly after signing with Metropolitan, the model met at the beach Patrick Lafontaine who put her in contact with Elite Model Agency in 1988. And the rest is history.
Just after finishing high school, Claudia Schiffer left her small German town and went to Paris for a trial photoshoot. The trial was such a success she landed her first magazine cover, appearing on Elle Magazine’s cover.
It was in Paris that Claudia Schiffer felt free to express herself through fashion. She said she felt liberated to walk around in any clothes she wanted. Another interesting fact regarding her fashion style is that Claudia Schiffer preferred to dress as a boy when she was younger so as to not attract attention to her looks.

Thanks to her resemblance to the young Brigitte Bardot, she was the face of Guess in the early ’90s. Soon after, Claudia Schiffer became the muse of Karl Lagerfeld and was the face of Chanel for many years. She said that the German fashion designer “was my magic dust; he transformed me from a shy German girl into a supermodel.” In 2012, the supermodel posed once more for Guess to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary.

During their 6-year engagement, La Schiffer appeared several times on stage as Copperfield’s assistant, being sawn in half, guillotined and so on.
