Velour tracksuits are coming back Hello, the Noughties.

Outfit ideasTrendsOctober 19, 2020

Since we’re spending more time indoors than we’ve ever had, comfortable and easy-to-wear clothes have become a must. In fact, cosy cashmere pullovers and bodycon dresses, and track pants are selling faster than hotcakes this fall. But after months living under COVID restrictions, we’re longing for something a bit more glamorous. This explains why, after so many years, velour tracksuits are making a comeback this season.

The hot trend of the Noughties

Velour tracksuits were a bit trend in the Noughties. The ones like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and L.A. it-girls would appear in velvet track pants and matching hoodies. And the most desirable brand was Juice Couture, an American label that closed its stores in 2014. By that time, the velour tracksuits had already fallen from grace and were considered as tacky as the excessively tanned girls with long blonde extensions who wore the bubblegum pink velvet ensembles.

How to wear velour tracksuits in 2020

The velour tracksuit revival may come as a surprise for all those who saw, with some relief, the death of that trend. But don’t worry, the throwback look has been updated for fall 2020, and can be styled in quite cool ways. In fact, the comeback of the velvet tracksuit comes in quite handy in a time when we prioritize comfort.

With the velvety look that elevates the comfortable garment, you can wear your tracksuit as separate pieces. For example, pair velour track pants with a nice top and jacket or wear the velvet hoodie with tailored pants for a stylish office outfit. You can also wear the track pants with a cardigan or an on-trend vest. Layer a long coat and wear ankle boots to make the track pants look more polished. Add a statement bag and chunky chain necklace, and you’ll be chic enough to go out for dinner.

Who’s bringing back the velour tracksuit?

Juicy Couture is back with their biggest hit; the velour tracksuits. Additionally, Suzie Kondi, an Australian who launched her eponymous label based in Los Angeles, creates the perfect tracksuit, with a higher waist and flattering proportions. Among her fans are Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts, Zoë Kravitz and Sienna Miller. But also luxury fashion houses like Burberry, Off White, DKNY and several others, have presented their versions of the Noughties velour tracksuits. Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton made the news a few days ago, appearing together in the throwback trend. The duo was promoting the new collection of tracksuits by Skims, Kim Kardashian’s undergarment label.
