New in: I’ve checked the best shops and spotted 5 new trends

FashionOutfit ideasJanuary 23, 2023

As much as I might like surprises, I’d rather be prepared when it comes to new seasons’ fashion trends. So, if you are a bit like me, you’ll be happy to know I’ve scoured the best new-in pieces and spotted 5 fashion trends coming for Spring 2023.

Based on the highlights of New York fashion week SS23 and the Spring collections just dropping in shops like Farfetch, Browns, Moda Operandi, and Lyst, I selected the most wearable new trends. And we focused on timeless pieces, so you can wear them not only now but also in the coming seasons.

A mini insight into Spring 2023

Fashion designers and brands are suggesting for Spring/Summer 2023 a comfortable and wearable season, but without giving up glamour and exaggeration. Balance is the ideal word for the year 2023. Think that we are coming out of a turbulent 2022 but full of hope for good news. We want balance.

So, in terms of clothing and styles, you will see basic tailoring pieces take centre stage. To visualise what we’re talking about, the white t-shirt + wide-leg denim is going to be uniform number one. And to complete this look, invest without blinking in the biker jacket or romantic knitwear; crochet cardigans or embellished with flowers and ruffles. Almost all collections and shops, celebrating the 80s, offer a huge amount of colours and maximalisms for you to balance the basic with the playful. And the colour we see the most is avocado green. The green of the peel, darker and all the way to the green of the avocado flesh, almost neon.

1- Biker jacket

The biker jacket will be the best partner for wide-leg denim and cargo pants. Therefore, the cut will be tighter and cropped. No need to retire your XXL blazer, it will still be around, but the biker will be the new thing of the season.

2- Wide-leg denim

Even though some fashion editors are always reminding us that skinny jeans will soon be back, wide-leg denim is the only jeans you can wear next season. Include cargo pants in the list, which will come in lighter and more chic materials.

3- Ballerina

Ballerinas are back. Not surprising, given that last year Miu Miu’s ballerina shoes were one of the most popular shoes on Instagram and TikTok. And you’ll be wearing ballerinas with your relaxed denim.

4- Nostalgic knitwear

It’s not because it’s Spring that we’re going to stop wearing knitwear, right? One of the new trends for 2023 will be nostalgic knitwear, with a vintage flair. Think from crochet to alpine sweaters and cardigans adorned with flowers and country motifs. They will go with jeans and cargo pants, as well as dresses and crop tops.

5- Avocado

Even though Pantone has chosen Viva Magenta for the colour of 2023, what we see in almost every Spring 2023 collection is the colour green. The shops are also betting on the green. But we are talking more specifically about avocado green. The shades range from dark pastel green to neon lime.
