The much awaited Season 2 of Netflix’s series “The Crown" takes us back to the fabulous Swinging 60’s in London when Princess Margaret, the Queen’s rebellious sister and style icon of cool, meets and marries the photographer Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Princess Margaret loved his bohemian lifestyle and the freedom she felt with him. Both had artsy and fancy friends. They were the most popular couple in the 60’s and everyone wanted to have them at their parties or even better, to be at her parties - sometimes called excessive - in her Caribbean house on the Mustique Island or in London.
Princess Margaret was a trendsetter, her rebel attitude and bold style were called “The Margaret Look” and everything she wore was copied by young girls around the world. She was daring and risqué, even smoking in public, something that, in those days, just wasn’t done by any lady, let alone the Queen’s sister! And it's all there in season 2, the trouble and wild Margaret played by actress Vanessa Kirby is so real and dazzling, thanks to the work of Janie Petrie, who took the costume design of this season.
If you are in London, you can see some of her fabulous outfits, which are on display in an exhibition in Kensington Palace. The curator of this exhibition says that “Margaret was a distinctive fashion icon because she was so glamorous, with all the beauty of a Hollywood film star, she brought a new kind of style to the Royal Family.”
