Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding at Windsor Castle is only weeks away!
To immortalize this moment on the 19th May, they chose the fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski, who already took their official engagement pictures last December. Speaking about being chosen again, the photographer, who lives in New York with his wife and 2 sons, said: ”I could not be more thrilled and honoured to photograph this historic occasion (…) it brings me such joy to be able to witness again, the next chapter in this wonderful love story.”
Although most eyes will be on the bride and groom on that day, I am pretty sure many will be fixed on the dashing photographer too!
You might be wondering who is Alexi Lubomirski and why has he been chosen to shoot not only the engagement but also the royal wedding, so here are some facts about the talented photographer whose killer looks could have come straight out of the pages of the fashion magazines he works for:
Lubomirski was born In England. His French-Polish father and Anglo-Peruvian mother separated when he was young. At the age of 8, he moved with his mother and step-father to Botswana, coincidentally, the very same country where Prince Harry and Meghan travelled to at the beginning of their romance and where the diamond in her engagement ring came from. It was also in Botswana that Lubomirski got from his step-father his first camera when he was 11 years old.
After finishing school, Alexi took a gap year and while travelling in Peru, he began being interested in photography. Later, after graduating from photography at the University of Brighton, he got a job as assistant to the world-famous Mario Testino, a favourite of the English royal family, having taken, for instance, Prince William and Kate’s official engagement portrait. He worked with Testino for the next 4 years in Paris. After that, he went on to photograph for FACE Magazine and for several fashion magazines such as Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and Allure among others, and soon became the darling of the stars, shooting Julia Roberts, Beyoncé, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez, Selma Hayek, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, and Scarlett Johansson, to name a few. He’s just been named Photographer of the Year at the Daily Front Row’s Awards in Los Angeles.
Lubomirski lives in the East Village with his wife Giada and 2 sons, 7-year-old Sole Luka and Leone, 4. Giada is the daughter of a Cuban mother and Italian father, she grew up in Rome and moved to the USA at the age of 13. The couple met in 2008 when Giada was the director at the MILK Gallery and curated Lubomirski’s photo exhibition. After becoming a mother, she started getting more and more involved in environmental and humanitarian projects and is now producing/directing her first documentary: “Couture”, in order to find and present environmental and sustainable solutions for the fashion industry.
It was at around the age of 11 that the photographer’s mother told him he was a Prince as his father came from the Polish House of Lubomirski. The young Alexi was delighted at first but soon after, disappointed to learn that his princely title didn’t come with palaces, great works of art and money. His mother told him then that his title was about being a prince in his heart and his actions.
Now as a father, he felt the need to pass on to his children what he had learned about how a prince should act and, what had started as a little book to commemorate his son’s first birthday, after a friend’s insistence, became the book just launched: “Princely advice for a Happy Life”. In the book, the photographer and father of 2, gives some very good tips for young boys and men: “Be chivalrous at all times. Stand up when introduced to women. Open door for them, help carry their belongings and protect them from harm.” All proceeds from the book will go to the charity Concern Worldwide of which he is an ambassador.
As the real-life Prince Charming that he is, once a month Alexi writes a poem for his wife and gives her a rose and a pearl that she saves in a jar and that will one day be stringed together into a necklace for when the couple has a daughter or grand-daughter.
Talented, good-looking, chivalrous and romantic, who better than Alexi to shoot the fairy-tale wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan?
