Making friends, in general, can be utterly tough, but it can get even tougher when you move to a new city, town or continent. This situation can definitely be a hard move to complete and we are sure, many of you have found yourself in such a situation. Moving countries or even cities is definitely for the brave ones since starting everything from the base without family or friends should be considered as an Olympic sport, for the psychological strength it secretly requires. We agree it can get tough as iron, however, let us tell you; there is light at the end of the tunnel.
So let's fix this situation with some tips and hints on how to establish a steel-strong bunch of friends wherever you go or wherever you move to.
Oh Hey Neighbour!
Do not even think about it, go and knock on his/her door. The less you think about it, the less awkward it is because let’s be honest, we all have spy-hole and all have spied on our new neighbor practicing the classic intro (“Hi! I’m your new neighbour, do you have some sugar?” – If I must put you into situation) walking back and forth down the corridor. Let's not do that and just be cool, introducing yourself with the beautiful name that your parents very kindly gave you.
Put your phone down.
Remember when WhatsApp didn’t exist and you would meet people on the streets while going out or simply having a drink while waiting for your parents to pick you up from practice? Well, let us remind you, this was not 200 years ago. These situations used to happen less than 10 years ago and how happy were we? Keep your phone in your pocket and try creating a useless or funny conversation with the bar man, or the girl sitting next to you in the coffee shop. You will be surprised how many things happen behind a 10 x 5cm phone screen.
Smile, you are currently creating your own first impression of your next new friend.
The title says it all, smile, someone is watching and you are currently being analyzed by someone in the same situation as you. A smile and a relaxed expression may be the icebreaker for a new conversation, so keep those pearly whites showing (-without getting creepy of course). Remember to spread the same vibes that you are looking for.
