Check all about the oldest film festival in the world
Sara Sampaio, Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett looking fabulous at the 75th Venice International Film Festival
The 75th Venice International Film Festival is taking place at Venice Lido until the 8th September, having the Mexican film director Guillermo del Toro as President of the Jury.
Every year, the most successful stars and directors gather at Lido di Venezia. It is such a prestigious affair that fashion-lovers around the world have their eyes on the red carpet for days.
The Venice Film Festival is by far the oldest ongoing film festival, with Cannes at its heels, and although Cannes may be more famous, the Venice Film Festival is definitely more glamorous and chic. As a matter of fact, in Venice, the stars seem to be more elegant than at the Oscars or any other film festival. Maybe they put an extra effort to match the elegance of the historic palaces and canals of this Italian floating city?
And let’s face it, even the stars wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to strike a pose arriving at the Lido di Venezia sitting languidly on a Riva Aquarama, wearing a dream gown, dazzling jewellery and looking absurdly glam! (Although in some cases, not even this wonderfully chic setting can help…)
Lady Gaga, who starred the remake of “A Star is Born” with Bradley Cooper, drew the paparazzi’s attention as usual, in a pink Valentino Couture adorned with feathers, but although the outfit was with no doubt a show-stopper, in our opinion, her look was more appropriate for Carnaval in Rio.
But all in all, we must say most women looked gorgeous. Armani Privé was the choice of many of the stylish stars and pink seems to be quite ubiquitous on the red carpet this year. Here are the best dressed at the Venice International Film Festival:
Emma Stone, Natalie Portman and Claire Foy rocking amazing gowns on the red carpet in Venice
Natalie Portman appeared in a gold sequin Gucci gown with a black velvet sash with a bow around her waist and big 80’s shoulders. Portman looked absolutely dazzling, as glamorous as an old-era-Hollywood star, and showed how to wear a plunging neckline without being vulgar.
Sara Sampaio, the Portuguese Victoria’s Secret model, achieved a very chic and classic look in Armani Privé. The elegant strapless silk gown was embellished with champagne crystals embroidered.
Emma Stone looked fabulous in her boho-chic Valentino pale pink gown, so ethereal she seemed like a fairy out of the "Midsummer Night’s Dream".
Claire Foy, who starred “First Man”, wore a wonderful colour block outfit; a pink gown with fitted bodice, adorned with a red long flowing cape that ended in fringes for a wow-effect. The silver sandals, one statement ring only and the hair in a sleek side part, finished her chic look to perfection!
One of the Jury members, the actress Naomi Watts wore a pink tiered strapless column gown by Armani Privé and completed her effortlessly chic look with delicate jewellery and loose hair.
And last but not least, Cate Blanchett, of course. The über-chic unbeatable queen of the red carpet was also in Armani Privé. She looked fabulous and oozed old-Hollywood glamour in a black velvet plunging gown with a white-feather cape coming down her shoulders, and she completed her outfit with sparkling diamond earrings and ring by Chopard.
