A Must-Go In Austrian Summer
It doesn’t matter if you live in Austrian or just visiting the country for holidays – if you are around in summer, there is an event that CANNOT be missed: The Festspiele Reichenau! Notorious was so lucky to get invited to the theater festival to see this years’ great stage productions. The repertoire of 2017 included BAUMEISTER SOLNESS by Henrik Ibsen, IM SPIEL DER SOMMERLÜFTE by Arthur Schnitzler, LADY CHATTERLEY after D. H. Lawrence’s novel and ZUR SCHÖNEN AUSSICHT by Ödön von Horvath. As every year, the cast of the productions was as famous as the plays themselves. Among the actors were Katharina Straßer, Alma Hasun, Joseph Lorenz, Julia Stemberger, Marcello de Nardo, Miguel Herz-Kestranek, Michou Friesz and many, many more.
Visiting the beautiful little town of Reichenau is double worth it: Already the monarchs of Austria, like Emperor Kaiser Franz Joseph and his wife Kaiserin Sisi were charmed by its atmosphere. The royal vibes can still be felt when wandering around in the parks or passing the Rudolfsvilla, which was the imperial couple’s summer residence. It feels like traveling back in time when arriving in the town that used to be the high society hot spot of the Avantgarde and the Royals around 1900.
Best, you combine your stay with a visit to the theater.
If you missed going to Reichenau this year, make sure to look after tickets for 2018! We hope to see you there ;)
