Is it even possible to look good in these?
Looking at old photos of yourself in crazy coloured, patterned bike shorts that your mom most certainly put you on might make you cringe. So what feels like a flashback to your unfashionable childhood, however, is debated to be the trend of the year. Labels like Nina Ricci, Saint Laurent and Off-White already demonstrated that cycling shorts are made for more than just the Tour de France, so maybe you should also start thinking outside the box and bring them into your daily life.
Decontextualizing, that is to say, is nothing new when it comes to fashion. Wearing a silky pyjama shirt to a weekend picnic or beach slides on a shopping spree at the mall is what people do on a regular basis. And since athleisure is still going strong, rocking your favourite workout gear or trainers in a more casual or maybe even formal environment is also something you would do without batting an eyelid, wouldn´t you?
So why not throw on some cycling shorts and walk confidently into the office, the museum or the bar in which you have yours after work get-together?
Well, because other than some Nikes these kinds of shorts are not that sexy or cool on their own and the right styling really is everything. With some extra layers, flowy fabrics, high quality tailored blazer or some fancy heels your look might get some “aaahs” and “ooohs” (positive ones we hope).
If you still lack in imagination, we got some outfit inspiration that could change your opinion on cycling shorts! Possibly…
