Stella McCartney is a fan!
Everyone is talking about Russia and the World Cup these days. But because quite frankly, we don’t find football that interesting, during this World Cup, we decided to focus on what really matters instead; Russian fashion, of course!
When speaking about fashion, the first places that come to mind are Paris, London, New York and Milan. Moscow, or any other Russian city for that matter, are not really part of this fashion circuit, but you’d be surprised of how many local promising designers are producing amazing fashion there. The Mercedes Fashion Week in Moscow selects at every season, around twelve designers among more than 3000 Russian designers who apply to present their collections.
One of the Russian brands that have been the talk of fashionistas and bloggers alike is Ruban.
The two sisters, Alice and Julia Ruban, launched the brand Rubran in 2010, after having worked as stylists for fashion magazines for several years. In a short period, they have already won several awards such as “Designer of the Year” and “Woman of the Year” in 2015 and have become internationally known too. Actually, their success was almost instantaneous, since Alice drew attention by wearing Ruban at the Paris Fashion Week. After that, British designer Stella McCartney said Ruban had been an inspiration for her fashion shoots. Needless to say that such a statement helped propel the brand to fame.
Carine Roitfeld, ex-director of Vogue France, wrote about Rubran in her blog, Moda Operandi has presented the Russian brand for four seasons now and the sisters and designers took part in the PFW.
Their design is delicate, refined and sophisticated, combining and multilayering transparent and dense materials. Organza gowns, pleated suits worn under corsets, dresses with minimalistic clean lines embellished with ruffles and pleats here and there.
One of their clients is “TheManRepeller” fashion blogger Leandra Medine, and when she likes something, you can be sure it is going to be a hit.
