Wearing plastic just became stylish
If we said the new PVC trend is about to rule to the world, you will probably be thinking…what on earth in PVC? But that’s okey, because we are here to give you a short introduction to what the new big trend is about. No need to panic.
PVC stands for nothing less than p(oly)v(inyl) c(hloride). Okey, remember we just told you not to panic; this will not be a chemistry class. Promise. PVC practically means plastic; however what you will start to see on the runways and shops is a softer and more flexible version of this plastic. It is a low cost and lightweight material that has been taken by the masters of the biggest brands like Chanel and transformed into a beautiful piece of clothing. A good example of this material could be a raincoat. Even though not all raincoats might be made of PVC, some of them are and let us just mention how cool they look.
Everything started in 2017 when Mr. Karl Lagerfeld landed on the SS18 collection for Chanel with a bunch of PVC designs – mostly shoes and accessories. After that many online shops started filling with see-through/plastic shoes and heels. Then some Spanish brands came into the game adding some PVC details to their jeans and so did ASOS and Topshop. The latest news we get from the big apple and all the fashion weeks around the world is that the attendees are filling the streets with PVC. So no more talking, let’s jump right into this trend that threatens to be one of the biggest movements of the year.
