Viva Carmem Miranda!
Last Tuesday, Lena Hoschek presented her Spring/Summer 2019 collection in Berlin, bringing a little of South America to the German capital.
The central point of Lena Hoschek show was Carmem Miranda, the Portuguese born Brazilian samba singer from the 40s, who starred in many Broadway and Hollywood musicals. Carmem Miranda’s styling signature was an exotic fruits hat, ruffles, mini top, red lipstick and a big smile. But her fruit hat was definitely the main point of her character, known as ‘The Brazilian Bombshell’. She was the first Latin American actress to leave her hand and footprint on the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard. By 1945, she was the highest paid woman in the United States.
A strong and talented woman was the right inspiration for a tropical and feminine collection.
Lena Hoschek is synonymous of colours and curves, but always playing with folk costume; we’ve seen the designer bring to the runway dirndls, Roumanian tradition, English countryside, and now, the Tutti Frutti collection, an ode to the energy of Latin women.
Although we’ve been seeing the Sicilian oranges in Dolce Gabbana and the ruffles in the creations of Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz, with her Tutti Frutti collection, Lena Hoschek introduced us to Papaya, the best tropical fruit in my opinion!
So, we'll have to wait until 2019 to wear a Tutti Frutti dress and dance through a warm Summer night to the sound of pandeiro and cuica, drinking Caipirinha and just having fun.Lena Hoschek Spring/Summer 2019
