Sometimes, less is definetly more!

Simple makeup can look wonderful, sometimes much better than a very elaborate one. We also feel that for more mature skin, heavy makeup with foundation creams and powders and too much eye shadow tend to make you look older and accentuate the wrinkles whereas using fewer products not only can your skin breathe but also you will look younger.
First things first
To look good wearing little makeup, you need to take good care of your skin. Never skip your basic 3-step skincare routine; cleanse, tone, moisturise, morning and night. If you're not in your teens anymore, you probably will not want to go out bare-faced, and we think you shouldn't:
1 - Even out your skin
The fastest way for this first step is to apply a sheer tinted lotion with sun protection that moisturises, nourishes and protects your skin and at the same time, covers blemishes, reduces pores and wrinkles and gives you a youthful glow.
2 - Conceal dark circles
If you have deep dark circles under the eyes, using only the tinted lotion won't do the trick, you will also need a concealer. Apply a very small amount right under the circles (not on the circles) and dab the concealer with the tip of your fingers or a makeup sponge to blend it. Be careful not to apply too much product otherwise, you will accentuate the problem.
Now that your skin is ready, we can show you three different ways to look good with simple makeup:
For the monochrome makeup Elle Fanning wore at Cannes, you will only need a few minutes and three products; black mascara for that bright-eyed look, (which by the way, I cannot live without), a blush and a lip gloss or lipstick. The "no-makeup makeup" is fresh and perfect for long summer days and also looks beautiful at night.
1 - Cheeks
Apply just a tiny bit of peach or blushed rose blush on your cheeks for a healthy and natural glow. Forget the old-school contouring of the past, you should apply cream blush with your fingers directly on the apples of your cheeks ( to find them; smile) and dab to blend it, t working the blush up and down towards the hairline. Use a small amount of product and dab it well to avoid a "clown face". Apply a tiny bit of the same blush on your temple and eyelids as you would with a regular eye-shadow.
2 - Lips
For a together look, wear a peachy pink lipstick that matches the blush on your cheeks and looks very natural.
3 - Eyes
To make your eyes pop, nothing better than black mascara. The right way to apply it is wiggling the wand next to the roots of your lashes, not the tip. Then, while you close slowly your eye, pull the wand up still wiggling it to separate the lashes. We recommend you apply the mascara only to the top lashes but if you want to make your eyes look wider, apply just a tiny bit of mascara to the bottom lashes too.
Focus on the eyes
Just because it's simple, it doesn't mean that it has to be no-make makeup. Apply as before, a nude lipstick matching the peachy-pink blush on your cheeks, but for a Wow-effect, use Kohl eyeliner to contour your eyes like Cate Blanchett, and of course, the mascara that will add some drama to your sexy look. This super simple makeup will make you feel like a star in only a few minutes.
Tightlining is the best way to define your eyes and give an impression of fuller and darker lashes. Use a pencil eyeliner, which is much easier to apply than the gel or liquid ones.
1 - Lift your eyelid up with your finger.
2 - Draw a line on the skin below the eyelashes, filling in the spaces between the roots of the eyelashes.
3 - Place your finger on the centre of the bottom part of your eye and gently pull it down.
4 - Draw a line on the inner skin next to the bottom lashes, filling the space between the roots.
Focus on the lips
Emilia Clarke's bright red lipstick is a game changer and makes her look instantly glamorous. With these dramatic lips and a touch of mascara, the Game of Thrones star is ready for any red carpet event, although I think red lipstick looks fab during the day too. You can recreate this same look with pink lipstick if you're wearing pink clothes like Emily Blunt.
1 - Apply a lip liner over the natural line of your lips before applying the lipstick so that it lasts longer.
2 - Fill out with a dramatic red lipstick.
3 - Put your index finger into your mouth ( it seems strange, but trust us on that!), pull it out slowly. All the excess lipstick will come out on your finger, preventing that mega-embarrassing moment when you smile showing teeth stained with lipstick.
Now you only have to decide what to do with the time you save using the simple makeup trend!
