Alessandro, You Killed It Again!
Prada, Fendi, Gucci, Moschino and more: At Milan Fashion Week attendees currently get to see Italy’s best designers with their collections for Spring/Summer 2018.
Alessandro Michele kicked off the Week and staged a show that astonished not only for its fashion. “The #GucciSS18 show space recounts diverse inspirations and aesthetics. The setting’s captions written into the floor resemble a modern translation of an ancient map featuring Roman poet Orazio’s country home. The runway is Tiber river; while the map is juxtaposed with the layout of the Imperial Fora, dotted with classical statues from different periods and cultures. The backdrop is an early medieval structure with a double portico and the runway features three arches in Indian, Aztec and Egyptian styles. Surfaces in bubbled pvc and streetlights give a metropolitan feel.”, as Gucci describes their event on Instagram.
The designs were inspired by different influences: Shoulder pads, blazers, and big glasses resembled Elton John’s stage outfits. Gemstones, poppy colors and leopard patterns reminded of the 80’s glam. But also fairytales and East Asian Vibes found their way onto the catwalk. Long story short: Everything was there that you would not have expected.
We know Creative Director Michele to be eclectic with his designs and mix different styles, dragging the most unusual topics and fields into his collection, but with such a diverse show he even outdid himself this time.
