As we already told you here before, we love the work of this New York-based Brazilian jewellery designer. And apparently, we are not the only ones! The auction house Phillips selected Ana Khouri to have a solo exhibition at their Park Avenue address.
The famous auction house, specialised on the best Artwork of 20th and 21st centuries, recognised Khouri’s jewels as contemporary art and compared her jewelled sculptures to “unique gem canvases”.
The young sculptor turned jeweller graduated in Fine Arts at FAAP in her native São Paulo. After moving to New York, she turned her attention from sculpture and painting to jewellery, studying Gemology at the GIA and design at Parsons.
Ana Khouri is a small company, and the designer says she prefers to remain so because it gives her the independence and freedom to create as she wishes her jewellery, which she sees as “collectible pieces rather than a business to drive sales”.
Khouri’s designs are not only beautiful, but they are also always intriguing, fluid and organic, as extensions of the wearer’s body. Earrings that crawl up the ears and seem to come out of the ear canal, rings and bracelets that give the impression they stay magically on the fingers and arms, defying the laws of gravity, all pieces are made exclusively with fair-trade gold and ethically sourced gems.
Over the last years, Khouri has become the darling of stars such as Emma Stone, Lily James, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Watson, Lady Gaga, Zoe Kravitz and Alicia Vikander and her modern and hip pieces are present at all red-carpet events.
