You sure have seen a pretty looking jade roller or one of those weirdly shaped stones somewhere on the internet and probably asked yourself “What is this even good for?”
Trust us, we have been there too.
Jade rollers and gua sha have their origin in ancient Chinese medicine and have been used for centuries. Jade is also valued for its healing effects and it is said that it balances your body´s energy and makes bad vibes go away. They are now meant to depuff your skin, decrease wrinkles and reduce breakouts.

Jade rollers normally have a bigger and a smaller end. The bigger one finds use on the larger areas of the face like cheeks and forehead, while the smaller one is for the undereye area and the parts around your nose and lips. If you store the roller in the freezer and then use it in the morning after waking up, you will get a nice, refreshing energy boost with a depuffing effect.
Facial gua sha which translates into “scraping” (sounds a bit scary, huh?) helps to encourage the flow of lymphatic fluid and gets your circulation going. This helps reduce puffiness and gets bad toxins out of your body. The thin tool has different sides which should be used in different ways. While the more curved ones are for your jawline and cheekbones, the flat part is for your forehead and the round one is ideal for your neck.
No matter which one you go for, when using them be sure to move them in upwards and outwards motions and apply a facial oil or your favourite moisturiser first for easier use and better absorption of the products.
By the way: rollers and gua sha stones are also available in rose quartz which has other characteristics than jade, but also looks really nice (if not even nicer).
