The big hat trend is hot this fall, following the hype that started in summer, when Jacquemus caused furore on Instagram showing a model wearing a sheer light blue dress and a fabulous giant straw hat that was sold-out within days. If you loved last season's hit, don’t be sad summer is over because you won’t need to put away your big head-pieces yet. The large hat trend is just beginning; from what we saw on the catwalks, you will keep on wearing them throughout fall and winter too.
Most designers have presented fabulous hats for fall/winter. Although they come in so many different shapes and styles, they all have something in common: they are big, very big! What used to be one accessory among many, has now taken the center-stage and become a must!
Have a look at the options of big hat trend for fall/winter; we are sure you will find a few, if not many, that you will love:
After this summer’s big hit, Jacquemus presented a black version of his ginormous straw hat that looked fab with an all-black cropped pant-suit and an ultra long earring on one ear only, another trend we’ve already shown you before. To balance the extra large hat, the model carried a tiny handbag. Other designers also presented wide-brimmed hats; Dolce & Gabbana’s came adorned with stamps like an old well-travelled suitcase, while Alberta Ferretti, Maison Kitsuné and Saint Laurent opted for chic and minimalistic hats with wide brims.
Big cowboy hats
The cowboy look is taking over the catwalks; first, it was the cowboy boots trend, which by the way, is still huge, now, their hats, that come extra-big this fall. The Italian brand Redemption paired super chic dresses with big black cowboy hats adorned with sparkling crystal hat bands that shouted rock-glam attitude. Vaquera’s big cowboy hats are in beige corduroy and as tall as top-hats, Alberta Ferretti's have a soft texture and Naeem Khan come embellished with white lace.
Big fluffy furry hats
Missoni's fall collection was a patchwork of 70’s and 80’s fashion; the big furry mohair hat she presented seemed XXL bucket hats. Michael Kors furry hats came with a big fluffy pon-pon on the top. Giorgio Armani paired power suits with big slouchy furry hats that up-dated the looks.
Beanies have been here for several years now, but this fall they are bigger than usual. Missoni’s oversized woolen beanies and Etro’s Peruvian-ish beanie looked as if they had been hand knitted by our grandmas. Micheal Kors also went for cozy big beanies, and Undercover moved up the beanies, covering them with sparkling beads. Anna Sui and Dolce & Gabbana big beanies followed the logomania trend.
The typical French hat is very on-trend this fall and winter, Giorgio Armani presented big slouchy berets, Sonia Rykiel’s models walked down the catwalk in matching outfits and big berets, and Isa Arfen’s black and red berets were not only oversized but also sculptural.
