After a hiatus of six years, Renée Zellweger is coming back to the big screen with a Judy Garland biopic that the actress hopes, will help people better know and understand the life of the iconic singer and star of the “The Wizard of Oz”, who died tragically at the young age of 47.

The Oscar-winning Zellweger plays Garland in her final year, 1968, showing the singer’s final concerts in London amid health and financial problems, her loneliness and longing to be back home with her children. “Judy” will feature several famous songs including “Over The Rainbow”.

Judy Garland started working at the age of two and never stopped, she grew up under a lot of pressure regarding her weight and her looks, and despite being one of the most famous actresses of her time, she was at the mercy of the MGM managers and handlers who controlled her decisions, mined her self confidence and helped her fall into her drug addiction giving her amphetamines.

Renée Zellweger prepared for the movie by reading as much as she could about Garland’s life and trying to address what hadn’t been shown yet, the most private moments of the actress’ life.

Judy”, that will come to theatres in September, covers the highs and lows of Garland’s life, without over-sensationalising the lows, the same manner “Bohemian Rhapsody did with Freddie Mercury’s biopic, a change that did not please movie critics but was very well received by the public.
