Just a matter of style

This is that bitter-sweet time of the year when you’re both sad and happy summer is coming to an end and you will have to put away your summer clothes. But hold on, there’s no need to rush. We have some simple styling tricks to help you give a longer life to your hot-weather wardrobe and allow you to keep wearing your favourite summer dresses until winter! I’ll give you a hint: layering, layering and some more layering ;)

Dress over pants

The über-stylish Dane, Jeanette Madsen, can show you how to rock this look. Choose your favourite wrap dress or shirt dress so that we can better see your pants under the dress, but you can actually wear any type of dress as we saw on Molly Goddard, Jil Sander and Loewe's A/W19 runways. The trend for fall is to wear loose tailored pants, but this styling trick works well with jeans too.

Strapless dress over a shirt

A buttoned-up shirt under a strapless dress looks smart and professional. The visual effect of this is a styling trick is very modern and perfect for a day at the office. Pair it with ankle boots or, to add a bit of edge, wear the platform shoes that are back as one of the hottest trends this fall.

Slip dress over a T-shirt

You’re not ready to put away your slip dresses? Don’t worry, just wear a T-shirt under it. You can choose a crisp white Tee or a printed t-shirt that looks very effortlessly chic. For colder days, you can always wear a long-sleeve tee under the slip dress and boots.

Dress over a turtleneck

A turtleneck under your summer dress is one of the fall trends this year. You can go for a Scandinavian-chic look and wear beige-on-beige or make some unexpected colour and prints combination like the ones we saw on Paco Rabanne and Dior A/W19 catwalks. I love this pink and red outfit Chloe Hill is wearing during Paris Fashion Week.

Dress under a shirt

Pick any midi-dress from your wardrobe, wear a white shirt over it and instead of buttoning it, just tie it carelessly in a knot that will accentuate your waistline. You can dress down your evening sequin dress with a grunge-style checkered or denim shirt. Sneakers or ankle boots will finish your laid-back look to perfection.

Dress and blazer

Blazers and skirts are a huge trend this fall, but you can also pair your blazer, preferably oversized, with your summer dresses. This is a great combo for office look as it brings chicness to your breezy dresses.

Dress and long jacket

For a more rock&roll look, pair your dress with a long leather jacket or a black jacket and boots like this stylish show-goers did at Milan Fashion Week.

Dress and tights

As we saw on catwalks, tights are back big time. This fall, match the tights with your shoes as Kate Spade and Sally LaPointe did for NYFW, among many other designers. Bright coloured tights or white ones are super on-point but you can always wear the black tights you already have in your wardrobe.

Have fun!
