Capes for super women!
The fall 2019 trends are already here, and it’s time to know what you’re going to wear in the next months and what you should keep in the basement. After having followed hundreds of runways from New York, London, Milan and Paris, we are sure that one item will be a must-have in every wardrobe, and I am talking about capes.
In Summer, we followed the blooming of this trend in numerous evening cape-dresses. Do you remember Elle Fanning in the best moments on the red carpet in Cannes, wearing Gucci and Reem Acra?
The capes are the new coats for the daily uniform, to be worn from the office to a happy hour cocktail. Especially in fall, when the cold is still mild, and you want to wear chunky pullovers, capes are the best option because they make enough space for a statement knit. You know, there is nothing more uncomfortable than trying to fit a pullover with puff sleeves in a coat with regular sleeves, defying all laws of physics.
One of the central pieces of Miu Miu's fall '19 collection and film campaign we talked about is the cape, which Miuccia Prada designed in the most varied materials; canvas, tweed, faux-leather and fur or crocheted.
The cape 2019 new fabric is absolutely the gabardine, like a trench coat but in a cape-poncho shape; cheers from the '70s! Burberry did it, of course, and the good news is that Asos did it too :). But don’t worry, you don’t need to purchase anything new, you will make an excellent fall entrance with your wool cape from last year :)
The capes are also invading the evening wardrobes, taking the place of shawls and stoles. Gucci has an incredible (even in terms of price) short capes collection. Marc Jacobs opted for a maxi version, just to mention some designers who didn’t set any limit to luxury details like embroideries, laces and sequins.
So this is what Notorious editors do; we invest in pieces like a good cape, and suddenly all our clothes get a magic upgrade — even the evening dresses.
Enjoy our selection of the best new arrivals in the shops, capes to dream of and use as inspiration to create your fall capsule wardrobe.
Cheers!
