The 10 hottest footwear trends for autumn
While everybody is enjoying the hot summer days, we are already thinking about fall at Notorious. We’ve been following all catwalk shows and paying attention to what’s going on in the streets during the Fashion Weeks so that we can let you know in advance which are the shoe trends for next season. A little hint; your shoes will be as glamorous as jewellery pieces this fall, in shimmering gold or silver, coloured like precious stones and embellished with crystals and shearling. But there’s more.
I selected the ten hottest trends for autumn, from bejewelled pumps to chunky boots with platforms, there’s something for everyone next season:
In fall, you will take things to new heights, literally! Whether wearing pumps, sandals or boots, make sure they have platforms; hello the ’70s! Alexa Chung’s loafers and sandals, and Tom Ford’s pink pumps are among the many platform shoes from F/W19 shows. By the way, you should wear black boots with chunky platforms with the punk-romantic style we already talked about here, that will be one of the significant fall trends. But please, do practice walking on the sky-high platforms before venturing outside, we don’t want you breaking your ankle!
It’s a jungle out there so put on your animal print shoes next season. Leopard print, croc and snakeskin boots, pumps and loafers are super chic and make any outfit look dressier. Zimmerman created leopard pumps with ankle straps that you can tie over your pants to create a modern silhouette. Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s leopard pumps and snakeskin boots with block heels are so versatile; I can’t get enough go them!
Your footwear will be sparkling like jewellery. Embellished with rhinestone, pearls and colourful crystals, and you will wear these little jewels not only with fancy outfits but also with jeans to go to the office, very ’80s indeed. Moschino and Paco Rabanne are some of the designers who presented these beauties in their F/W19 collections.
We saw metallic pumps on the catwalks and in the streets during fashion month, not only in silver and gold, this fall, any metallic colour will be on-point. The cute Mary Janes are back, but this time, they are are all grown-up. Anna Sui revamped them in metallic shades, and I must say I am obsessing about them.
Fall will be all about metallic clothes and shoes too. Cowboy boots, booties and long boots, no matter the length or style, as long as they shimmer! The models walked on the A/W19 catwalks in their metallic boots looking like futuristic Barbarella-meets-Wonder-Woman. Also, gold and silver booties seemed to be the number one footwear choice of fashion enthusiasts and editors during fashion month.
Still in the jewellery realm, purple like the beautiful gemstone amethyst is the colour that the most stylish women have been wearing. And from what we saw on the catwalks, it will be on their feet too. Dries Van Noten had models walking in fab purple knee boots, and Miu Miu presented her modern take on the Mary Janes. From lavender to orchid violet, the regal-coloured shoes will be hot this fall.
Emerald is another precious stone that is setting the colour for your footwear. Green in all shades will brighten up any outfit this fall and make you look chic. I especially liked how Anna Sui ticked so many trends in one look with her metallic emerald-green Mary Janes paired with matching tights.
Summer isn’t over yet, but lace-up boots and booties are one of the trends we saw the most in the streets during the latest fashion weeks. Rejina Pyo presented booties in cute baby-blue and sandy beige while Dion Lee’s knee-high boots came in off-white or black. Fashion show-goers approved the sexiness of the lace-up shoes.
This trend had already started in summer with the chic square-toe sandals. In fall, you can go with square-toe boots like Alex Chung’s chunky black ones with platforms. The cowboy boots Proenza Shouler presented have the contemporary toes. The chic Bottega Veneta and Nina Ricci pumps were also updated with square toes, which, by the way, make any style of shoes look more modern.
Get cosy this autumn in fluffy yet super chic shoes covered or just embellished with shearling. The plush texture was present at many fashion shows; like Chanel’s chunky boots and the chic pumps with straps by Off-White. Also, the delicious mint green mules by Nanushka and the cool Eckhaus Latta shoes will bring warmth and style to your feet.
Now you only have to choose your favourite trend, or maybe all of them ;)
