Christmas is not only about presents, we all know that, but one can easily get carried away, and become stressed by an extense and superfluous Christmas list. In these last years, with my children becoming young adults, my Christmas has been less and less about buying many presents, and more and more about spending time together and celebrating with the family this special occasion. Of course, it is also about finding the right gift for each one. Not about quantity.
We usually sit and talk about the year, the good things that have happened, but also the difficult moments we’ve had. The cold weather is inviting for having some lovely tea while talking about plans and organising next year. It is in these conversations that I find inspiration for Christmas presents. I think where the New Year’s Eve parties will be, where they will spend winter vacations, their needs for University life and even their summer vacations. And voilá here is my list!
I know my daughter needs a new bag
Because she’s not a kid anymore, she needs a beautiful handbag to go out. I think quality matters more than quantity, so I’ll get her a chic and versatile bag that she can use day or night by changing or adjusting the shoulder straps. A longer strap allows her to wear the handbag cross-body, which is more practical for parties where she wants to dance hands-free. The red bag with trendy fringes add nowness and a pop of colour to winter looks, and the brown suede bag with gold metal details is elegant and timeless. I also know she wants a bigger tote to carry all she needs for a day at the University; books, a laptop, a makeup pouch, a small umbrella or an extra pullover etc. A minimalist tote in faux-leather or eco-felt is the perfect go-to bag for a stylish student.
She always needs new underwear and pyjamas
My daughter likes going away for the weekend or travelling with friends. Lovely pyjamas are a must, and these elegant silk ones are perfect for brunch in pyjamas on Christmas Day and lazy winter days at home. Underwear is the kind of essential garments we always need, and they don’t have to be boring. Here are some fun ones with polka dots and cute colours.
A cool accessory for New Year’s Eve
It is Christmas, but I know she’ll be already thinking about the New Year’s Eve party, so nothing better than a present she’ll wear that night! A sparkling accessory will help her party like it’s 1999 😉 New Year’s Eve parties are all about glamour, so statement earrings with shiny Swarovski crystals or gold and pearls are a great Christmas present. Lady-like pearls and sparkling chandelier earrings are some of the accessories you need to go through fall and winter like a glitterati.
Ankle boots are the staple footwear to get my daughter through winter. Because she’s living in Madrid, booties will be warm enough for her to go to University. Cool cowboy boots and Chelsea boots with trendy tractor-like chunky soles are so easy-to-wear and comfortable she won’t want to wear any other shoes!
A Christmas tree without socks, gloves and a foulard is unacceptable
This sentence sounds like something Queen Elisabeth would have said, and maybe she has. And it’s true; these winter essentials make great Christmas presents. But not just any scarves, socks and gloves, of course. Make sure you get them following the colour trends, for example, this foulard in pink wool combined with red. Since we see again and again the comeback of the logomania trend, chic Gucci socks with the house’s logo or some luxurious cashmere gloves are excellent gifts. By the way, do you know the difference between Cashmere, Mohair and Shetland wool?
