When Bollywood meets Hollywood

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' wedding was as spectacular as only an Indian wedding can be! The festivities started last Wednesday with the typical pre-wedding Hindu rituals and continued into the weekend. After the traditional Christian marriage on the 1st December, it was time on Sunday, for the Hindu ceremony at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. Two days later they hosted another wedding reception, this time in Dehli, and they said this wasn't the last one yet. The bride joked that “people will need vacations after this wedding.”
The singer and actor, who is well known for the TV series “The Jonas Brothers” on the Disney channel, first sent a private message on Twitter in 2016 to Chopra. Jonas and the “Baywatch” actress started then texting each other for several months. The celebrity couple finally met at a party a year later, when Jonas got on one knee and told the former Miss World and Bollywood star “You’re real. Where have you been all my life?” Quite a bold move, if you ask me. I would probably have been terribly embarrassed by such a scene, but apparently, it worked because, after a four-month engagement, the power couple is already happily married.
Among the many Hindu ceremonies, the couple exchanged garlands of flowers, the bride’s hands and feet were decorated with henna tattoos called Mehendi, and they took part in the Sangeet, a lavish song and dance competition between the couple’s families where each one had to tell with their performance, the story of how the husband and wife-to-be met.
Priyanka and I have been looking forward to the Sangeet (the musical evening and a pre-wedding ritual) to see what each side of the family had put together. We’re both so full of gratitude for the effort and the love put forth by both families. What an amazing start to a lifetime!! @priyankachopra
As you can imagine, Hollywood and Indian film stars and celebrities packed the wedding festivities. Ralph Lauren, who dressed the groom and the bride for the Christian ceremony, was there. The "Games of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner too, since she is engaged to Joe Jonas, one of Nick’s brothers.
The couple stated on Instagram: "One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other's faiths and cultures. And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing."
Throughout all the celebrations, Priyanka looked gorgeous, especially in the stunning colourful Abu Jani Khosla Couture dress she wore for the Mehendi ceremony.
One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other''s faiths and cultures. And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing. An important part of the pre wedding rituals for the girl in an Indian wedding is the Mehendi. Once again we made it our own and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed. @nickjonas
May the newlyweds’ life be filled with as much colour and joy as their Indian wedding.
