Paco Rabanne is a hot brand again, and who is behind it?

My job as a designer is doing something where you can see the love and the work”, says Julien Dossena, the designer behind the fabulous Paco Rabanne Fall 2019 collection.

Paco Rabanne was known as French fashion’s “enfant terrible”, and became famous in the 60s with his futuristic chainmail looks. Almost 60 years later, the brand is being revamped and put back in the spotlight by the hands of the fashion designer Dossena.

And from what we see on Instagram, the revived fashion house is a hot brand again. On the popular social media platform, the most stylish women and influencers are carrying Paco Rabanne’s iconic metal-chain handbags.  Not mention that sales doubled last year.

Dossena, self-called ‘PlayStation-addicted’, worked for four years at Balenciaga with Nicolas Ghesquière before joining Paco Rabanne in 2014.  In this time, he explained that he was searching for beauty and asked himself: “what does glamour mean and how can you contextualise it in a contemporary way?”. The answer was the fabulous looks with a feeling of Golden Age Hollywood meets the Eighties that we saw – in awe – in his fall 19 collection for Paco Rabanne.

For our delight, Rabanne’s signature metallic look is still present but with a more contemporary take. We’re obsessing over the Art-Deco wave pattern garments and mix of patterns that make this collection Red-Carpet worthy.

Dossena achieved the perfect balance in every Paco Rabanne’s Fall outfit. We can see that on the gowns worn with cowboy boots to add modernity and edge to the ultra-glamorous numbers. Also, the designer embellished masculine looks with feminine decorative elements. The Military-style jackets came with rich gold embroidery while the tuxedo had sparkling bejewelled buttons. Even the dark dresses were adorned with bright crystal brooches. The contrasting game is explored in all details.

All in all, Paco Rabanne is the brand of modern glamour.
