With the arrival of not only a new year but also a new decade, we’re very excited about the new arrivals in the shops too. Needless to say that I'd be happy to see them all in my wardrobe, but I'm trying only to buy consciously!
The idea of buying less but buying better is becoming more and more popular among women who are aware of the environmental and moral issues of over-consumption. Having this motto in mind, we searched among the new 2020 collections, for items that will last more than only one season. We selected trends we saw in the catwalk shows that we’re sure will become classics that we’ll enjoy wearing over and over again.
Here are the new arrivals that you will be glad you bought to complement your wardrobe in 2020.
If you still don’t own a trench coat, that’s a piece you definitely should get. Besides being a classic that never goes out of trend, it is also an excellent transitional piece for spring. It is THE outwear for when you don’t want to wear your winter coats anymore but still cannot leave your house without a jacket. J W Anderson and Tibi’s trenchcoats have already become a big hit among fashionistas on Instagram. The oversised ruffled overlay on the shoulder of the MSGM trench gives nowness to the otherwise classic coat. Likewise, Mango brought nowness to its model with the contrasting flaps and cuffs; contrasting panels are very contemporary.
Denim Flared Jeans
We will see plenty of Denim this year. Designers like Gucci and Celine presented flared jeans. We especially like this silhouette because it elongates your legs and has the ’70s feel. Furthermore, flared jeans are ideal for wearing with boots that will keep you warm and dry during spring’s tricky weather.
Versace and Givenchy went with worn-in, distressed jeans for S/S2020. Without a doubt, denim that looks like you’ve worn them forever will be a thing this year. Pair your vintage-looking jeans with a chic top and a tailored blazer to balance the look.
And since Bermuda shorts are one of the significant trends for 2020, long shorts in Denim like the ones we saw on Chanel's runway, are a good option. This year, you can even wear your Bermuda shorts to the office, as long as you dress them up with an elegant jacket.
2020 has brought back the polo shirts thanks to Prada and Rejina Pyo. One reason you should adopt this trend is that polo shirts are as comfortable as T-shirts, but they give you a more polished look. Wear this classic top paired with jeans, skirts and shorts, or layered under dresses for a contemporary spring outfit.
Although Pantone chose Classic Blue as the colour of 2020, we will also see a lot of green this year. By the way, you can read more about next season's hues in our article The colour palette for Spring 2020 according to Pantone and our fav fashion designers. In line with what Prada, Rochas and Versace presented on the S/S2020 catwalks, you will be glad to buy anything green to wear throughout the next seasons. You can start wearing the faux-leather dress now, layered over a turtleneck, and paired with boots, which give it some edge and keep you warm. The same goes with the silk shirt by Mango that will transition beautifully with you throughout the whole year.
