After many years of delicate chain necklaces, barely there rings and bracelets, we’re seeing the come back of loud, colourful statement jewellery for Spring/Summer 2019. Fashion designers and high-end brands such as Chanel, Loewe and Chloé have presented on their Fashion Week catwalk shows in Paris, London and New York, chunky jewellery that is clearly setting the spring 2019 trends.
Necklace @ Carolina Herrera
Flowers for spring may seem a bit obvious but stay with me; this year, it’s one little flower here and there, the trend will be covering your ear or neck in flowers, the more the better. Versace sent the models on the catwalk with gardens growing on their ears, and each side has a different set of earrings and Carolina Herrera has beautiful pieces with a bunch of flowers.
Drop earrings @ Versace
Next season’s earrings will hang from your lobe with long chains like the ones Dior and Versace presented.
Hoops @ Oscar de la Renta
Hoops never go out of trend, they only change in size and shape. For this spring, you can go with chunky hoops like Valentino’s crescent moon hoops or Oscar de la Renta's unusual hoops with coral branches and pearls.
Layering: moons, stars, medallions
Necklace @ Oscar de la Renta
We will continue layering, but this coming season you can be bolder and try some exceptional pieces with big stones as the ones used by Giambattista Valli. Oscar de la Renta and Yves Saint Laurent complemented their catwalk outfits with long chains and earrings with stars and moons while Paco Rabanne chose to hang several golden medallions on thicker chains. I especially love the galaxy pieces created by Bibi van der Velden.
Chains and links
Necklace @ Hermès
Chains with links in different materials, shapes and sizes will be a must this spring and summer. This trends had already been introduced in July last year by Hermès with the Enchainement Libres collection. Virgil Abloh is a big fan of chains with an industrial feel that can be layered or worn by itself. Chloé’s chokers with chunky coral red links are so perfect for the coming season you will want to wear them every day. Marla Aaron has some wonderful locks that you can wear with your favourite chains.
Cuff @ Chloé
This spring you will feel like Cleopatra, with gorgeous arm cuffs like Saint Laurent’s glittering serpents. Rodarte and Chloé have also presented several arm cuffs that you can wear several at a time and on both arms for a wow-effect.
Bracelet @ Carolina Herrera
Like in the ‘80s, the big lucky charms hanging from necklaces and bracelets are hot again, and they bring a feminine and nostalgic style. Carolina Herrera’s come with chunky nuts and big white beads that match the dresses’ white dots of her summer collection.
