Meghan Markle has just made a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards last night, to honour the British designer Clare Waight Keller, who designed the Duchess’ wedding dress and is Givenchy’s artistic director, by presenting her the British Designer of the Year Womenswear category award.
The visibly moved winner said in her acceptance speech: "This woman is so amazing, and I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. And to have someone like that trust you in an incredible moment in their life is something that is just the most unbelievable honour and I can't thank you enough. It was just the most beautiful moment."

The Duchess of Sussex was flawless in a beautiful couture Givenchy black one-shoulder-gown and jewellery by the British designer Pippa Small. The Mum-to-be looked radiant with her visible maternity bump, which by the way, she held with both hands as if afraid it was going to fall off. Since her wedding to Prince Harry, this is the first time we see Meghan with dark burgundy nails. There’s an unwritten royal protocol regarding coloured nail polish, which apparently, the Queen not only doesn’t approve of, she thinks it’s vulgar. Much before Meghan, Princess Diana was already breaking the rules and used to look fabulous with her chic red nails.
But back to the awards. Miuccia Prada received the Outstanding Achievement Award to celebrate her 40-year long career. Swarovski gave Vivienne Westwood the Swarovski Award for Positive Change in recognition of her commitment to ethical fashion and environmental issues. Kaia Gerber, the beautiful 17-year-old daughter of the supermodel Cindy Crawford, was named Model of the Year.
The British Fashion Awards was a star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London, and it is one of the big highlights of the European Fashion calendar. Victoria and David Beckham attended the event together despite rumours of separation, with their son Brooklin. Virgil Abloh, Alexa Chung and Emilia Wickstead were some of the many fashion designers that attended the glam event.
The guests all looked so fabulous arriving at the historic venue that the Awards will probably go down as THE red carpet of 2018!
We saw many well-known faces like Brooke Shields, Robert Pattinson, Carey Mulligan, Naomi Watts Uma Thurman, Penelope Cruz and singer Rita Ora among other Hollywood celebrities. Fashion journalists including the Austrian Isa Klausnitzer, and models like Kate Moss and Winnie Harlow, rubbed shoulders with British and European aristocracy and celebrities. Model Alek Wek stole everyone’s attention on the red carpet in a stunning Emilia Wickstead black dress with a gigantic pink bow on the back that ended like a train.
