All you need is a spoonful of sugar
Marry Poppins is back just in time for Christmas, this time played by Emily Blunt in “Mary Poppins Returns”, a sequel of the adored classical musical film, and coincidentally or not, many designers have been presenting Edwardian-inspired looks in their latest collections, as if influenced by the magical nanny herself.
The 1964 original film with Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke as the chimney sweep, is set in London in the 1910s, at the time of the Suffragette movement. Mary Poppins is the nanny of two children whose mother is a suffragette. This year, by the way, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage that allowed women to vote in the U.K.
We love Mary Poppins’ attitude and style, and right now, so does fashion. We saw on the F/W 2018 and S/S 2019 catwalks of Dior, Chanel, Erdem, Moschino, Galliano, Marc Jacobs among others, plenty of Mary Poppins’ signature looks.
High collared shirts with buttoned-up long skirt suits, puffy sleeves, ruffles, scarves and hats. The suffragette style seems to be invading the wardrobes of all fashion enthusiasts.
Check here how to get Emily Blunt’s look. We cannot promise that you will be able to fly around with your umbrella like Mary Poppins, but at least, we are sure that you will look fab and stylish!
