American journalist J.J.Martin has lived with her Italian husband in Milan for over 16 years and worked writing for magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, WSJ, Wallpaper, The NY Times Style Magazine, Vogue, AD and Elle Décor.

Being, as she says, obsessed by vintage, she has collected a serious amount of vintage clothing and jewellery and her favourite are the bold and colourful patterns from the 60’s and 70’s.

As her collection grew bigger and bigger, J.J. decided to start in January 2015, La Double J, a shoppable e-magazine to sell the vintage clothes and jewellery she’d curated and amassed all over Italy.

Thanks to her work as a journalist, J.J. has met several interesting and talented women in Italy. She said she wanted to promote these creative geniuses, so she interviews and invites them to model the shoppable clothes and accessories in photos beautifully shot at their wonderful villas or in the streets of Milan.

One of the many talented people she’s met was Lucia Mantero, who runs in Lake Como a textile company that has been in her family for 4 generations. J.J., moved by her love for vintage, partnered with Lucia to make simple dresses using the vintage prints from the textile company’s impressive historical archive. Their first collection, with only 8 dresses in silk with the amazing vintage prints, was a massive success.

So ladoublej.com, that had started as an e-shop only for vintage clothes and jewellery, turned into a label of clothing for women, men and kids, using the luscious and colourful silks printed with vintage patterns from the Lake Como’s company.

La DoubleJ has continued to expand and only 3 years later, also produces now the La Double J Housewives, a line of plates, tableware, furniture and accessories, all with vintage patterns and vivid colours, intended to be mixed&matched and layered with their patterned table-linens and napkins in the best maximalist style.

In their site, you will also find great digital content, city guidebooks and beautiful editorials that will definitely lift your spirits and inspire you.

Beside its e-shop, La Double J has a showroom in Milan and pop-up stores in Bergdorf Goodman, in Parisian Le Bon March, in London’s Liberty and several luxury hotels in the Italian Riviera as well as in Mexico’s Hotel Esencia and Italian Il Pellicano Hotel. What all these pop-up shops have in common is the crazy mix of colourful prints in the travelling "Wunderwall" installation by Italian architect Luca Cipelletti that is a feast for the eyes!
