These are the fashion colour trends for fall 2020.

From what we saw in the A/W20 runway shows during the very last fashion weeks before COVID-19, this autumn will be anything but boring. The colour trends for fall 2020 will be all about rich tones like the vibrant Electric Blue, but also cool hues such as the sophisticated Almond Beige and Celery Green.

According to the Pantone Colour Institute, the colour palette for fall/winter 2020/2021 reflects our desire for versatile and timeless wearable classics. These hues fit in well with the less is more mindset that’s become even more important after the coronavirus lockdown. The Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute explains, “Imbued with strength and personality, colours for fall /Winter 2020/2021 encourage our ongoing desire for unique self-expression through creative and unusual visual statements that stand out.”

Among all the tones fashion designers chose for their collections, we selected the top eight colour trends for fall 2020 that are already popping up on our Instagram feeds. These are statement colours that don’t go out of style hence are perfect for a long-lasting wardrobe.

Amberglow

Amberglow is a versatile shade that you can pair with several shades. For example, Michael Kors presented a beautiful cape and turtleneck in orange, paired with denim for an effortlessly chic look. On the other hand, Hermès combined the classic pleated skirt with brown while Eckhaus Latta had the model in a brighter shade of orange from head to toe.

Fired Brick

Pantone states that the strong and sturdy Fired Brick adds gravitas. Like a good red wine, we may add. The warmth and sturdiness of this deep shade of red is a solid fall staple that will last you several years. It is a great hue for chic outwears like Lanvin’s leather piece. Akris is another fashion brand that used Fired Brick leather for a sleek suit. Additionally, wear it as seen at Marques Almeida, in cosy knitwear. Add a bag in yellow or green for a touch of colour.

Almond Oil

Almond Oil is a smooth and subtle off-white tone. Designers like Isabel Marant, Bottega Veneta and Zimmermann presented luxurious outfits in this elegant creamy shade. Instead of the usual beige, wear this lighter colour trend for fall to elevate your office outfit next season.

Military Olive

A strong and stalwart foundational green tone that you can wear with orange, purple or white for fabulous looks. Chloé paired it with brown in a classic combination while Longchamp Olive jacket and trousers were worn with unexpected silver boots, giving the outfit a bit of edge. The good news here is this colour you’ve been wearing for many falls so you can find already good pieces of green in your wardrobe, right?

Sleet

Celery

According to Pantone, Celery is a vital yellow-green that reflects the natural freshness of nature. Very much in tune with our desire to go back to a more natural and sustainable life. Celery is one of the colours for fall 2020 that looks elegant in Chanel suits, Bottega Veneta dresses in sequins with theatrical sleeves or long cardigans and skirt with fringes.

Black

Well, what can we say; among the colour trends for fall, black is the new…black! Bottega Veneta and Jonathan Simkhai went for black looks with long fringes, another hot trend for AW 2020/2021. Celine’s chic bohème outfit includes a crochet blouse that could have been hand-knitted by your grandmother. As told before, handcrafts are hotter than ever as they are a nod to sustainable fashion.
