Vintage shopping is dividing the minds. Thinking about wearing something that already belonged to somebody else might raise someone´s hackles while others get excited just by smelling old leather. We don´t want to side with anyone here, but simply point out the many positive aspects of second-hand clothes and accessories.

First of all, you have the chance to get something unique that not every single person on Instagram already owns. Secondly, you can get your hands on really nice pieces at ridiculously low prices. And lastly, vintage items are quite sustainable. When you buy second-hand clothes, you break the never-ending cycle of buying-wearing-throwing away. You use what is already there and can avoid the production of new clothes that way. Also, when it comes to leather and fur, buing second hand is always more environmentally friendly and not least saves some animal´s lifes.

So, if you live for preloved stuff and preferably spend your free time looking for vintage treasures, then we have something for you: a list with our favourite second-hand stores in Vienna and online.

BOOTIK 54

Bootik 54 is divided into two shops that are next to each other. Located in Vienna´s famous Neubaugasse, a street for everything hip and cool, the second-hand store often decoys us with its amazing selection of reworked Levi´s Jeans, band shirts and denim jackets.

BURGGASSE 24

You could call Burggasse 24 a hipster place. The shabby, but chic interior, the selection of vintage clothes (high-end as well as more affordable stuff) and the appendant café make this shop very instagrammable and also the perfect place to spend your Saturday mornings.

DAS NEUE SCHWARZ

This second-hand store in Vienna´s first district is a branch of the eponymous one in Berlin. Titled as the “Best vintage store in Germany” by GQ Magazine, we are very happy to also have the chance to shop the cool pieces reaching from Helmut Lang to Yves Saint Laurent here in Vienna.

FIRST FASHION SECOND HAND

Already existing since 1976, First Fashion Second Hand is a must when you are into vintage designer clothing. The store in Vienna´s city center offers high end women´s fashion and accessories. From Gucci to Chanel and Valentino – you´ll find all the big names.

SILVIA MILANO

Another store that is always worth a visit is Silvia Milano in the first district. The shop´s motto is “the older, the better”. Vintage lovers will for sure find something that makes their heart beat faster and their wardrobe a little more exciting.

ONLINE MARKETPLACES FOR SECOND-HAND CLOTHING

We get it, sometimes you just don´t want to go into the shops and look through stuff when you can actually do the same thing from the comfort of your home with your laptop in the one hand and a coffee in the other. Luxury vintage online shops are your best friend in this case and shopping there can be lots of fun. The pieces are already selected, displayed and described in a really nice way and shopping thus made super easy. Our favourite preloved online shop would have to be Vestiaire Collective. The online marketplace for second-hand clothing offers a selection of hundreds of thousand pieces ranging from shoes to clothes and jewellery.

Another one that we always visit is Rebelle. The cool online store sells countless preloved pieces including all big designers. Also Farfetch has a really good vintage selection where you can get everything from Chanel, Hermès to Fendi. And for all you Etsy shoppers, we recommend their vintage section. Jewellery, clothing and even art, they have it all. Just take your time and start browsing through the hidden vintage treasures that are out there in the world wide web. If that sounds too time-wasting, we made it even easier for you with our little pre-selection from Vestiaire Collective. Here you go:
