Over 40 Austrian designers at the Design Week in Milan
The yearly Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan is the world’s leading trade fair for furniture design, with more than 400.000 visitors each year. In this year’s edition, over 40 Austrian designers and manufacturing companies will present their creations from the 9th to the 14th April, putting Austria on the map as a strong design nation.
In parallel to the Furniture Fair, the “Fuorisalone” promotes several exhibitions and events in different areas of the Italian city during the Milano Design Week. One of these events will be the exhibition “Austrian Design - Pleasure & Treasure”, that will take place in an exclusive location, the “Sala Reale”, the former royal waiting room at the Milanese central Station, which is rarely accessible to the public and is a “hidden gem; a genuine local secret” as described by the Austrian consul Gudrun Hager.
The award-winning architects Vasku & Klug transformed the former waiting room into a “grandiose design pool” where the visitors will have to walk through a sea of foam to see the exhibits. With this scenographic experience, Austria will display interior design pieces such as office furniture, luminaires, tables and tableware and much more.
The Austrian presence at the event Fuorisalone has been organised for the past nine years by Advantage Austria. The country’s high quality, innovation and design exhibited during the Design Week in Milan, have already received the IF Design Award in the Gold category, and the Red Dot Award for Communication Design in 2015, and in 2016, the German Design Award in the Excellent Communication Design category.
