7 trends to step up your jewellery game
There were so many statement jewellery pieces on the F/W19 runways that you can pretty much wave goodbye to the barely-there necklaces and delicate rings we've seen for way too many seasons. Autumn 19 calls for bold chains, crystals, fun colourful pieces and big chandelier earrings.
Here are the major jewellery trends straight from the Fashion Week runways. And to help you finish your outfits perfectly and look like a glitterati this fall, we selected some pieces for each trend:
Area F/W 19
Chokers are back and this fall, they can also hang down from your neck, almost like a bib. They come in crystals like the bib-necklaces we saw on Area FW19 runway, in pearls like Chanel's, or in gold metal with colourful gems like Gucci’s necklaces. We've also seen plenty of leather chokers with or without spikes, which are a must to complete your pretty-punk outfit next season.
Alexander McQueen F/W19
One of the significant trends of this autumn, the romantic-meets-punk looks that Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Dior and Prada presented for fall, ask for punk-inspired jewellery. Think silver chains, spikes, crosses and safety pins. By the way, Gucci styling shows that you can wear punk-rock jewels with any outfit. The choker with spikes gives an edge to an otherwise classic look in neutral beige, and the combination looks surprisingly chic and polished.
On the totally opposite side, we see ladylike pearl necklaces that bring chicness to any outfit. From Alessandro Michele’s Gucci PreFall 19 collection that presents three rows of chunky white pearls over buttoned-up shirts, to Dior, with models wearing delicate pearl chokers in a grown-up styling. Even Vivienne Westwood, the queen of punk, has long necklaces with big round pearls for F/W19. The beautiful white beads are a classic with Coco Chanel’s approval stamp.
Paco Rabanne F/W19
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but no need to be the Queen, affordable crystals will do too, thank you very much. This fall, add a touch of drama and glam with sparkling chandelier earrings so long they go past your elbows like Paco Rabanne’s earrings with fringes of crystals.
Stella McCartney F/W19
Brighten up the colder days ahead with fun jewellery that seems made by your kids or nephews with colourful plastic and beads, textile and even paperclips! Stella McCartney long necklaces with neon-coloured ribbons, the huge hoops weaved in colourful textile, or her amazing long earrings made with paperclips in all hues bring joy to autumn's sleek outfits.
Dolce & Gabbana F/W19
As seen on Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana runways; autumn calls for brooches, the most versatile and fun accessories. Embellish your jackets or dress up your cardigans like Erdem does, with several brooches together. Mix the ones you already have with new bejewelled pins. You can wear them on your lapel, your gloves, bags, hats, you name it. Have fun. Just remember to follow the fashion rule that brooches are always worn in uneven numbers.
Bottega Veneta F/W19
At the end of last year, Hermès launched its fine jewellery line with the collection Enchaînements Libres, consisting of chains with chunky links in different sizes and shapes. This year, Paco Rabanne and Vivienne Westwood presented chains with oversized links for F/W. The über-trendsetter Bottega Veneta too, styled its fall knitwear with x-large chainlink necklaces, so you can be sure the bulky gold chains will soon invade your Instagram feeds.
