Vienna is a great city to live or to visit as a tourist. It has been named for 9 years in a row "the most livable city in the world", no wonder it offers so many wonderful options to eat out! When in the 1st District, the very heart of Vienna, you are really spoiled with great restaurants, cosy Viennese cafés or little Bistros. Whether you live in Vienna or are only visiting, we selected for you 3 places among our favourites, to go to lunch with friends:

Le Beaulieu

Le Beaulieu is a small cute French Bistrô in the Ferstelpassage, near the famous Café Central, located in the absolutely stunning Palais Ferstel right in the centre of Vienna. You can sit at tiny tables in the passage if you like to see people going by, inside the little bistro or out in the courtyard to enjoy the springtime in this beautiful setting. It can get very crowded so try to arrive early or book a table before. You can have oysters, Moules Marinières, Boeuf Bourguignon, quiches with nice salads and delicious desserts. They also have a shop where you can purchase their products.

At the museum Albertina, which houses the largest graphic art collection in the world, you can enjoy the typical Viennese or international cuisine by Do&Co at this very nice restaurant. I recommend you try the delicious sushi and for dessert, the famous-super-yummy chocolate cake from Demel. Better make reservations as it is usually crowded with museumgoers and locals.

Plachuttas Zur Oper

Plachutta is a restaurant that serves typical Viennese cuisine. The Wiener Schnitzel, the famous Viennese veal cutlet, is very good, but Plachutta is mostly known for its Tafelspitz, boiled beef pieces served with beef soup with vegetables, bone marrow and roasted potatoes, a delicious and very rich dish, not to be eaten if you have any intention of going back to work after lunch! They also have Kaiserschmarrn, a kind of thick pancake cut in big pieces and coated with sugar that comes with homemade plum stew, yummmmm.
