The late 70s, between 1977 and 1978 to be more precise. While the city of the dreams, New York was battling against bankruptcy, the very talented youth of the Bronx, were slowly changing the history of music. Of course, this was too interesting not to have a series about it and that is exactly what the multi-talented director Baz Luhrmann thought when considering this project. He managed to document and show the world through the eyes of some cool kids from the Bronx who didn’t want to follow the written rules; how the era of hip-hop was about to explode from a shy subculture into a whole new form of art.
These series has left us dreaming of the beats of the late 70s in New York. A wonderfully reflected story on how the art of Hip-hop emerged, however as much as the whole story keeps us awake at night, what we are even more mesmerized about is the styling and looks of the series. Those patterns, hairstyles and colours have literally got us daydreaming of such a look. Enough said. Here’s a set of images that will make you want go back in time and shake it like on of those rule breakers from the Bronx of the late 70s.
