The northern German city Hamburg became a place of pilgrimage for fashion enthusiasts from around the world, as Karl Lagerfeld hosted Chanel's annual Métiers-d’Art Show there last night. Location of the big event was the Elbphilharmonie, the big concert hall that was just opened at the beginning of this year, which is now the city’s famous landmark.
In the Métiers-d’Art show, the Parisian handicraft businesses are being honored. Thereby Lagerfeld let his models present his Pre-Fall 2018 collection that also paid homage to the city Hamburg, which happens to be the designer’s hometown: Tweed costumes with sailor collars, captain’s hats, and sea bags reminded of the city’s harbor, where the Elbphilharmonie is also located. The setting of the show was – very untypical for Lagerfeld – left as always. The chamber orchestra played in the middle of the stage, with the models walking around them. It has always been Lagerfeld’s dream to hold a show there, from when he first saw the construction plan of the building, as he later confessed in an interview.
To see the collection and be part of the whole spectacle, half of the fashion world and international celebrities came, as for example Lily-Rose Depp, Chanel testimonial, Kristen Stewart, and Tilda Swinton.
