Dear first-daters (and all-year-round tinder users) out there: First dates are an experience, what to wear? What to say? What is it going to be like? So many questions arise that it can be very stressful. In order to make it less stressful we have some tips on how to plan your outfits and what not to do. Remember that you are about to meet someone and show them what you are really made of, so any fake extras like too much make-up, unwearable Lady Gaga style heels or the black XS dress you saw on the shop window that you think will make you look thinner, are not the REAL YOU, so get your stuff together. So as we mentioned above, here is a short list of some do´s and dont´s you should start considering before going on your next first date. Please Note: We do not take ANY responsibilities on your date going wrong. These tips are only meant to make your life easier and make you look pretty. Keep it cool and bag yourself a second date!
1. Do not show too much skin
Rule number one, do not do it. It will just make you look like something you do not want to look like. Keep it simple and elegant, transparent garments for instance, do not fall into the elegance category straight away (although some exceptions may exist, this is not the case). Try going for a Parisian look. Less is more, always.
2. Stay casual
You might consider it boring while you are looking at yourself in the mirror, but many men and guys may rather see you in a pair of converse than a pair of unstable stiletto heels, specially if they require two minutes per step, while going up the five step stairs to make it to your strategically chosen table right by the window, at the restaurant. Stay casual, Short Block Heels maybe? Loafers? Any of these options will make you look cool, elegant and sassy.
3. Do not wear to much make-up
Relax, if he likes you, he should like you as you actually are, no matter how many spots and marks you may have and he will not be able to see your real you if you are hiding under ten layers of make up. Stop it, we know you are staring at your make-up bag like it was a fountain of hot chocolate. Take a step back and leave your MUA momentum for a night out with the girls. Guys love natural beauty, a base of skin toned make up, some eyeliner and tiiini bit of peach toned blush on your cheeks should be just PERFECT.
4. Comfort is the key
First dates are already awkward enough, make sure to feel good about what you look like, what you are wearing and how you are showing yourself to this new Prince Charming. It is crucial to feel comfortable, wear a comfortable outfit, comfortable shoes and feel comfortable with the whole situation. It is almost impossible that anything goes wrong if you feel cozy and confident with the whole situation.
5. Final Check
Time is precious, give yourself as much time as needed and do not overthink things. Keep your mind cool. If you think your outfit is so casual that it looks plain, add a cool accessory that upgrades your outfit. Make sure you are dressed for the occasion and that you are not surprised with the storm of your life and you find yourself wearing open loafers forcing your date having to carry you to the next save spot –although we have to admit it sounds quite romantic, do not fall for it. Save it for the second date at least! With no further ado, happy first date. Stay cool, you rock.
