Milan Fashion Week is all cool and dandy until you’re Gigi Hadid and some prankster tries to lift you up and carry you away. This is what happened as the supermodel walked out of MaxMara’s show together with her sister, Bella Hadid. As she stopped on her way to take photos with fans, some guy grabbed her from behind and lifted her up.

Gigi’s reaction was to elbow the man in the neck. Which we found a brilliant and prompt reaction. However, some websites found it quite un-model-like. To the haters, Gigi responded:

“To unknown article writer: fan?!!! The ACTUAL fans that were there can tell you what happened. I’m a HUMAN BEING, and had EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho.”

We think Gigi Hadid is more than right and had an appropriate reaction to a situation that could have been dangerous. She also added later:

GIRLS, prepare yourselves so that, if you ever feel in danger, MUSCLE MEMORY can fight back for you. Thank you all so much for ur support.

Agree? Here are our tips to be ready:

Take self-defense classes

This is a no-brainer, but also something that not enough girls and women get to take seriously. And a solid knowledge of self-defense can give you that muscle memory Gigi is talking about. Take classes!

Get yourself some pepper spray

That or some other handbag-friendly weapons thought for girls in emergency situations, like keychain alarm and teasers.

Don’t be afraid to react

An attack or a potential one can be scary, but what’s scarier at times is some people’s response to it. Forget the haters (like those who called Gigi un-model-like for reacting) and trust your instincts.

Here is how it went down:
