Is there anything that the thriving, flashy fashion of the 80s and the multinational company mother of all iPhones and way, way more have in common? For how unlikely it might seem, the answer yes.
Back in 1986, Apple was going through some troubled times. John Scully was then CEO, and a hurt Steve Jobs was launching his own new company. It is hard to imagine Steve Jobs away from Apple, but it kind of explains how the company went its odd ways.
Proof? The rather dubious, very 80s Apple fashion line. Aimed at windsurfers and sports buffs in general (and children, too!), the catalog presents models with their hands on their hips and timely hairdos, flashing some clothing pieces that look a lot like the product of something like Apple’s middle-life crisis.
For how weird this all looks, there is no denying that I wouldn’t mind sporting an Apple sweatshirt post-workout outfit. Maybe, even during its middle-life crisis, Apple was still able to be ahead of the game.
