When Jonathan Saunders announced the end of his eponymous label back in December, many suggested that he might have plans to try and run Raf Simons‘ position at Dior. However, we were all very wrong — Jonathan Saunders is, instead, to become chief creative officer for Diane von Furstenberg.

Why? “Jonathan’s extraordinary passion for colors and prints, his effortless designs, and his desire to make women feel beautiful make him the perfect creative force to lead DVF into the future,” said von Furstenberg. “I could not have found a cooler, more intelligent designer and I cannot wait to watch him shine as our chief creative officer.”

All good with us. But let’s take a step back and see why Jonathan Saunders is actually as cool as Diane says. The designer has dressed big names, from Michelle Obama to Kate Middleton, could easily be a good fit for Diane von Furstenberg, who dresses grown-up women with a passion for showing off their classic curves. Her wrap dress, of course, is an evergreen icon.

As Jonathan Saunder’s brand is from now off the runways, you can take a look at his past and rejoice. Jonathan Saunders + Diane von Furstenberg; will it be love?
