Maybe it’s not exactly etiquette, as most morning go by without, thank goodness, meeting anybody until office hours. However, I heard often enough that I shall not have my elbows on the table even when I am eating alone, so I am guessing company does not matter.
One of the hardest things to do on any given morning is behaving like a functional human with aims and ambition. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are or how clean and tidy you keep your apartment; I don’t think I know anyone who calls her or himself a ‘morning person’. And I don’t blame them. But it can be depressing at times. So here is how to have a productive morning like the adult you are, from also an adult.
If you also have an alarm set every five minutes from the moment you should get up until the moment you actually do (late), stop. Set one (or two, alright) alarms instead and then hide that phone for the night. Put it somewhere you need to stand up and walk to reach. This trick is obviously not working for sleepwalkers.
If you manage to get up at least one hour before the time to leave the house, you’ll find out that morning is not very different from any other time of the day. You can actually do things. Like read a bit of that book you’ve abandoned for the past two months. Have a nice breakfast checking the news. Do your nails. Write an essay on neuroscience. Something.
There is life before coffee
I know this sounds like blasphemy, and, mind you, I get on with at least a couple of strong cups a day myself. But there are alternatives. Lemon juice squeezed in lukewarm water is said to be a great help if you want to kick your coffee habit. Smoothies are normally a healthier alternative. Also, drinking a tall glass of lukewarm water alone as soon as you manage to stand up helps to get your body working.
Prepare your clothes the night before
As long as this may sound like a no-brainer, I know for a fact that many people just can’t be bothered. While I agree that “You don’t know what you are going to feel like wearing the next day”, I also realize that the amount of time I spend sleepily staring at my wardrobe post-shower is not normal. So try with a compromise: leave that outfit on the couch for the next day, and change your mind in the morning, if you have the mental power to do it.
Make time for your beauty routine
If you need another reason to wake up early, here it goes: your face. Don’t just slap those creams on you cheeks, but live in the moment. Pamper yourself, apply that eye liner right, now you got time. Enjoy the ride towards your day-face.
