The Row Resort 2016 And The Rise Of The Olsen Twins

Proud winners of the Womenswear Designer of the Year at the CFDA Fashion Awards just a few days ago (and for the second time), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are not even 30 and rocking those mono color robes one show after the other. The latest The Row Resort 2016 collection is modeled on the desires and needs of the brand’s customers, and the ready-to-wear feeling is all over the place. Described “well-balanced” by Mary-Kate herself, the collection doesn’t show any extreme while is all about well-tailored suits, urban gowns and greys, beiges and blacks.

It’s funny to realize that The Row was just born in 2006 and it was initially feared to be just another celebrity whim. Remember the now defunct clothing line 6126 by Lindsay Lohan or Avril Lavigne’s punk princess-inspired Abbey Dawn? No? Well, that explains it.

However, nine years and two Womenswear Designer awards later, the Olsen twins defied all odds and grew into a pretty badass brand to begin with. Mary-Kate and Ashley want to dress women who are educated, sophisticated and into the world of fashion, and they want to dress them with good materials. Leather, canvas, suede are the basics, while among the most valued materials we can find crocodile (!).

The Row doesn’t rely on their founders’ image and stands on its own feet, but we cannot deny that the twins’ trendsetter status did play a role in the brand’s success in the world of luxury. Just following their darkish, relaxed and rule-breaker style, their The Row Resort 2016 is simple yet never boring, with lengths giving that touch of mystery, and plenty of belts.
