Okapi is a rare label of luxury handbags and leather accessories made from ostrich — some of which is hand-polished with agate — crocodile and the brand’s signature Blesbok leather, which comes from an antelope native to South Africa. Those skins come from animals that are abundant in South Africa and farmed for their meat.

In almost every bag and accessory  we can see a Springbok horns, which are considered good-luck charms in South Africa, and are worn by everyone from stylish city types to witch doctors who store their potions inside the horns’ hollows.

Okapi’s design is really amazing and so is the designer behind the brand. She is Hanneli Rupert, 29, daughter  of South African businessman John Ruppert, owner of Richemont. Fat credentials!  Hanneli swapped Cape Town for London and studied at Chelsea College of Art, her pals are Princess Beatrice, Chelsy Davy, Cressida Bones (Prince Harry‘s ex), plus all Royal and cool British girls.

Wearing one of these bespoke bags will put you immediately into a very select circle. Where to get yours? Check her online shop Okapi.com or go to her father’s online shop Net-a-porter.com, yes John Rupert is the biggest Net-a-porter’s shareholder since 2010. As I said before, fat credentials!
