Well, this was unexpected. The ultimate #GIRLBOSS and founder of cutting edge fashion retailer Nasty Gal decided to step down and leave the CEO position to Sheree Waterson, formerly president and chief product officer of the company.

This decision, although not very predictable, is not related to any scandal or similar – if you are looking for scandal-related layoffs, you should take a look at Dov Charney and Mike Jeffries. On the contrary, Sophia Amoruso took a step back out of maturity, in order to let the company grow better in more expert hands. And Waterson seems to be able to do great things for Nasty Gal, having herself already made retailers such as Speedo and Levi’s shine bright.

Sophia Amoruso will still be in charge of brand and creative marketing and will be executive chairman of the company. Nasty Gal was born back in 2006 when Amoruso opened a vintage eBay shop based on her personal taste in fashion, which attracted an incredible amount of attention (and sales). Today, the company has about 550,000 customers in over 60 countries. Sophia Amoruso wrote a book about it, #GIRLBOSS, a best-seller and must-read for all girl power believers.
