Art can happen where you would expect it the least; this is clearly the case for formidable artist Rebecca Szeto, who is taking care of her project called Paintbrush Portraits.
Working on it since 1999, the artist sculpted and painted old paintbrushes into a series of portraits. Among her creations, we can see the girl with the pearl earring, las Meninas, Madonnas, Geishas and many others familiar faces.
“These works play with notions of re-forming beauty and value, offering a critique on consumerism, women’s work, and a curious entanglement of class dynamics in Leisure & Labor – Trash & Treasure.” says Szeto. ” It refers to the history of painting, through the medium of paint, using its own tool.”
