The most famous smile of Hollywood has become the new face of Givenchy. For the Spring/Summer 2015 collection, photographer Riccardo Tisci chose Julia Roberts – in a very different version of herself.
Trying to capture a new side of the actress whose smile made her famous, Tisci told her the photo shoot wouldn’t have featured any makeup, hair and, even more surprisingly, any smiling. Even if we are starting to come across different celebrities who choose to have their photos taken without makeup, it’s very different when it comes to face expression.
When the photographer decided to go for this look, stripping the actress of her signature smile, he had a clear idea in mind. He wanted to capture Roberts’ authentic self, without all the glam that usually surrounds celebrities. With a quite androgynous look, the black and white picture captures the viewers and appears extremely honest. As Tisci told Style.com, the same Julia Roberts was happy with the shooting, and said “I can see myself, my real self.”
And it seems to be true. Julia Roberts for Givenchy has that something that keeps your eyes on the pictures, a raw honesty that we cannot help but love. Also, the rising approach to a no makeup, no retouch philosophy by some is obviously refreshing, reflecting a public who is tired of glossiness and want to see something real. Julia might not be the first, but it definitely gave a twist to this daily struggle looking for real beauty.
