James Bent’s new book, Asian Street Fashion, has been released after a 4-year-long work period. If what you are expecting is a lot of Harajuku and pop, you will be disappointed. “In Asia, […] a lot of people are responding to well-developed and mature fashion.” said the photographer to Vogue. His shots are aimed to discover modern and tasteful outfits of the day rather than spotting those who dress up for a show.
According to James Bent, fashionable attires on the streets of Asia seem even more present than in the West, in spite of the fact that the West is where most trends are set. “In Asia, it feels like the interest in style is much greater, perhaps because of social pressure—and it moves fast.”, he adds. Seoul, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore seem to be under the spotlight concerning innovative fashion stores and hip neighborhoods.
Waiting curiously for Asian Street Fashion to sit under our Christmas tree, we can enjoy some previews of the highly styled Asian population.
