If you were a fan of edgy rocker looks in the 90’s, then chances are you were a fan of Jean Colonna, the Belgian designer based in Paris. He came up in a time with other designers like Helmut Lang, Martin Margiela, and Martine Sitbon – he was they guy you went to if you needed an edgy minimal T to go with your Helmut jeans until he closed up in 2002.
Once he closed up shop, he was free to pursue a spiritual journey, which took him to Nepal where he stumbled upon a cashmere factory by chance. This inspired him to revisit his archives and in 2009 he fine-tuned some of the designs to create a line of luxurious cashmere separates.
Now, he is as happy as ever and in a brand new boutique in Paris at 22 Rue Debelleyme – in the boutique is his Fall ’14 collection, a friendly priced line of elevated basics. He is back to what he does best, but does not regret the decision he made in 2002 to take a break and is looking towards the future of his new boutique with excitement.
