Look out for Hands of Indigo a cool new line Brazilian artist Yanna Soares has just launched. Although originally a printmaker, she wanted to take a touch of her culture and turn it into something tangible without turning it into a kitschy gift shop gimmick… so implementing traditional craft techniques here we have beautiful indigenous brazilian inspired handbags!

The beading alone takes the highly skilled artisans about 20 hours to complete… These are definitely pieces that should be cherished and loved for a long time, not treated like a fleeting trend. Each piece is produced in small limited quantities to ensure quality. Even though beading seems like a painstaking task, Yanna wouldn’t have it any other way.

‘I was fascinated with the very hybrid nature of beads, because the raw material is always imported from somewhere else – be they Czech or Japanese. So I wanted to create a product that uses this concept of trade, but is also very contemporary – something you can wear in the city and not look like you just came back from a trip to Cambodia.’
