The Icelandic author Halldór Laxness (who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1955) wrote in Heimsljós, 1940,
You can take everything from me except the freedom to look up at the sky occasionally.
There is hardly a better way to do so than floating in a hot pool. During DesignMarch, designer Unnur Valdís Kristjánsdóttir took a few busy (and very, very lucky!) DesignMarchers to Gljúfrasteinn, the beautiful 1945s home of the author himself for an exclusive floating session using her design, the Float cap.
Here is a little more information on Float by the designer, and below, beautiful images by Hulda Síf. Enjoy!
Swimming is a part of daily life in Iceland and the healing properties of water are well known to relieve stress and improve well-being. Float hat-helmet adds a new dimension to the water experience, one of relaxation and total bliss.
Enjoy a blissful silence. Muscle tension, blood pressure and heart rate drop as you start sinking into a deeply relaxed state. Floatation helps to reduce the effects of stress, aids detoxification, offers effective pain relief, speeds up injury recovery and helps alleviate the effects of insomnia, depression and anxiety. After a floating- session you regain a sense of clarity, focus and both physical and mental renewal.
